What to bring to Puerto Vallarta

Puerto Vallarta, this beautiful Mexican town, has  the perfect weather: lots of sun.  When traveling here you should primarily pack light clothing.

Let us talk about shoes first

Tennis shoes are great when you are planning to  go on a canopy tour.  You will definitely need beach sandals or you can not set a foot on the beach.  The sand is very hot here, it can be really painful to walk on your bare feet.  You will also need very comfortable shoes.  There are lots of things to do and see in Puerto Vallarta and when you walk around a lot, you will be very happy that you've packed the comfortable ones and not the high heels to walk on the cobblestone streets.

The beach

Sunglasses are a good idea and a hat so you won't get a sunburn.  It is very, very important to bring an SPF 30 sunscreen that is water resistant.  Of course when you plan on going swimming , and who wouldn't in Puerto Vallarta, you should bring your swimming gear like, a bathing suit, bikini or swim shorts for the guys.  If you want to go snorkeling, you might want to bring your own snorkeling gear.  And maybe pictures taken with a water camera would be nice too.  Bring it from home, it will cost $25 if you buy it in Puerto Vallarta.  A fold down cooler can come in handy too when you are planning on spending time on the beach, you can pack some drinks and keep them cool.

Other clothing

When walking around town you will need to be clothed, of course.  Pack washable clothes that dry fast.  The drying takes longer because of the humidity.  Pack stuff like shorts, T-shirts, a pair of pants, a light sweater can be useful in the evening when it gets a little chilly.  Don't bring too much clothes.  You will need some extra room in your luggage for all the clothes you can buy in Puerto Vallarta at cheap prices.

Medication and first-aid

Make sure to carry all your prescribed medicines on you.  You never know when you're luggage will be delayed.  Make sure to bring some anti-diarrhea pills and maybe some breath mints (spicy food).  Buy mosquito repellent and calamine lotion at home and don't forget to pack it.

Bring a special shampoo for chlorine removal.  Your hair will be very happy and it is perfect for rinsing out your bathing suits at night.

Other things that can be useful

Bring all your paperwork: your passport, ATM card, credit card, plane tickets... Make a list with the numbers to call in case anything should happen to your ATM card or credit card.  Make a copy of the first few pages of your passport and your tickets and keep them separated from your originals.

It would be a good idea to bring a towel.  Towels will be provided at the resorts with a towel key, but if you misplace it or loose it somehow you will end up paying a fine for it.

And of course: a camera, what is a holiday without holiday pictures?  Make sure to have enough film and spare batteries.
